New works by a re-emerging artist
These recent paintings utilise the graphic forms of national flags, maritime flag signals and recorded music formats (7” & 12” sleeves and discs, gatefolds, label sizes), overlaid with non-linear alphabets and ideograms such as braille, musical notation, scientific symbols and ancient proto-writing. They convey codified messages concerning art, astronomy, society, music and politics. The visual languages reference song lyrics, literature, poetry, biblical verses and philosophy. Planned digitally and hand rendered by dropping paint onto canvas - introducing jeopardy and human error into the digital precision of their origins.

Using 'Telegraphic Signals of Marine Vocabulary', devised in 1800 by Rear Admiral Sir Home Popham, the flags spell out 'England expects that every man will do his D U T Y'. It is overlayed with an image of asylum seekers crossing the English channel in a small boat.
